TVR is a somewhat iconic brand – a British marque known for their slightly insane and violently handling sports cars that have developed cult followings in some circles. Like them or not, you certainly know about them, and now, a new TVR is going to debut, and in doing so, celebrate the brand’s 70 year history.
The as of yet unnamed new TVR, codenamed the T37 believed to carry the ‘Griffith’ nameplate, will be the spark that hopefully ignites a successful resurgence for the brand, and as such has a lot riding on its success. In order to ensure the success of it, TVR has worked with top companies to get the most out of the car.
Gordon Murray Design – by the man who designed the McLaren F1 – were responsible for the design of the lightweight new TVR. The weight is down to 1200 kg thanks to extensive use of carbon fibre, using iStream technology also developed by Gordon Murray, which should aid performance substantially from a relatively low powered engine.
Cosworth have been charged with developing the V8 heart of the new TVR, which will give the new TVR a power-to-weight ratio of 300kW/tonne. That’s around 360kW from the 5.0-litre V8, driving the rear wheels. The new TVR will be capable of a 0-60mph (0-96km/h) time of less than 4 seconds, with a top speed of around 320km/h.
There will be 500 units of the Launch Edition built, with orders already nearly closed and only a small portion being held back for the public unveiling. After the Launch Edition units are sold, order books will re-open on September 8th, 2017.
