BMW South Africa has learnt from the past and knows that we love special edition models. Not only have they given us the #40YearsOf3 limited edition 3 Series recently, but now they’re giving us a South Africa-only special edition M5 – limited to only 20 units, and with as much power as the 30 Jahre edition M5.
It’s called the BMW M5 Pure Metal Edition, and it’s now available – if all 20 units haven’t already been bought out already. Power is up to 441kW (matching that of the 30 Jahre), 29kW more than the standard model and 18kW higher than the Competition Package M5, and torque up to 700Nm – making it the most powerful BMW M5 ever. Rear-wheel driven as always, the M5 Pure Metal completes the 0-100km/h sprint in 3.9 seconds before topping out at 305km/h.
Stopping power is handily taken car of by the standard M Carbon Ceramic brakes, which accompany a 10mm drop in ride height, an Active M Differential, and remapped steering, and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) systems. If those upgrades sound familiar, it’s because BMW used the Competition Package as the base for the special edition model.
Additionally, The Pure Metal Edition features the BMW Individual Pure Metal Silver Metallic paint and 20-inch M Double spoke alloy wheels to identify the exterior, whilst inside, a plaque bearing ‘PURE METAL M5’ and ‘1/20’ inscriptions is set into the Dark Aluminium Trace interior trim. M Sport multifunction seats are standard, upholstered in full black Merino Fine Grain leather, with contrasting Silverstone stitching. Comfort Access, Driving Assist, and Lumbar support are all standard features.
If you happen to be interested in such a model, it’ll set you back R1 948 000.
