After the Evo X, Mitsubishi killed off the Evolution nameplate and performance brand – taking with it many a childhood dream based on the foundation of many a World Rally Championship race. But it seems Mitsubishi is intent on not just letting dreams die, but on butchering them with an axe. The Mitsubishi Evolution nameplate is coming back… as an electric SUV if this concept is anything to go by.
After Mitsubishi recently revived the Eclipse nameplate with a crossover SUV, the brand has teased a new electric SUV concept ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show, called the Mitsubishi e-Evolution Concept. According to the Japanese brand, the e-Evolution Concept “signals the start of an exciting new era”.
The Mitsubishi e-Evolution Concept combines 4WD with an electric drivetrain, Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, and coupe styling. More details and images will be revealed when the concept makes its debut at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show from 27 October – 5 November 2017, but the long and the short of it is that Mitsubishi has replaced rally heritage with an electric, self-driving coupe-SUV. RIP childhood.
