BMW tease 8 Series revival

The BMW 8 Series was the precursor to modern executive coupes.  Way back when, it was the perfect blend of premium and sporty, and as such the BMW 8 Series is highly sought after to this day.  But the 8 Series met its demise, and in its place came the 6 Series – a similar concept, but not quite the same.

The 6 Series is allegedly dead though, which leaves a big premium coupe shaped hole at the top of BMW’s model line-up… A hole they have confirmed will be filled with a new BMW 8 Series.

This lone teaser sketch shows us the silhouette of a concept car that BMW will be displaying at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on 26 May 2017, which provides a look ahead to the BMW 8 Series coupe scheduled for a 2018 release.

Chairman of the board of management at BMW, Harald Kruger, said of the 8 Series, “The BMW 8 Series Coupe will build on our tradition of luxurious sports coupes and add a genuine dream car to our line-up – a slice of pure automotive fascination.  The 8 Series Coupe will underpin our claim to leadership in the luxury segment. I can tell you today that this will be a true luxury sports coupe.”

Think of the BMW 8 Series as the true rival to the Mercedes-Benz S Class Coupe – and with spy shots having already surfaced of what looks like an M8, expect the AMG S63 to finally have some competition in the luxury land-yacht segment.
