First look: The Polestar 1 pieced together

Polestar, Polestar 1, Volvo Polestar, Concept

This is the Polestar 1 Concept before you’re supposed to see it… sort of.  Ahead of its full reveal tomorrow, Polestar – the newly separated standalone electrified performance brand once responsible for all things Volvo and fast – has been releasing small pieces of the puzzle that is the first ever standalone Polestar model.  We’ve been taking these pieces, day by day as they’re released, and piecing the puzzle together to provide you this – your first look at Polestar 1!

Polestar is now headed up by Thomas Ingenlath – he’s the man responsible for the recent design language at Volvo.  So it’s no surprise this first Polestar 1 image looks very similar in design to other recent Volvo offerings like the S90.  In fact, it looks very similar to the Volvo Concept Coupe that previewed the entire 90 cluster of vehicles several years ago.

So what do we know about Polestar 1?  Other than the fact that it sounds like something out of Star Wars, very little.  We know that it will be based upon an existing Volvo platform, likely the Scaleable Platform Architecture (SPA) that underpins the S90, V90, and XC90 models.  We also know that it will be at least a plug-in hybrid, but that it might well be a full electric car, and we know that it will be performance orientated.

More details will be revealed tomorrow, and we’ll keep you updated.
