Renault Sport has hit the 1-million ‘likes’ milestone on Facebook. So to celebrate they released a video highlighting the greatest road-going Renault Sport products from their history. However, they also included one model still to come… the 2017 Renault Megane RS.
In the video below, if you wait until after the end credits, Renault Sport tease a veiled Megane RS, with the words “Coming Soon 2017”. We can’t see much from the teaser, however we can see that the Renault Megane RS will adopt the chequered flag lighting design in the lower front bumper. Although this teaser is very scant on detail, it does look very much like the renders we shared of the upcoming model.
The teaser video also gives us a very brief teaser of the Renault Megane RS’s engine note, sounding very snarly. Rumours have suggested the Megane RS will use an uprated version of the new 185kW 1.8T engine found in the Alpine A110 – however other sources suggest power outputs of more than 228kW, which would suggest use of an all-new 2.0T 4-cylinder.
With the Golf GTI Clubsport and Honda Civic Type R firmly in its sights, the still FWD Renault Megane RS will likely use all sorts of trickery to regain the title of fastest FWD car around the Nurburgring. It is expected to feature for the first time ever, an option of a dual-clutch transmission, as well as 4 wheel steering – as already debuted on the Megane GT.
Sadly for lovers of the Megane RS’s current coupe looks, the new model will be available in 5-door format only.
